Total s**t hole. They told me about a strawberry picking job which paid terribly but I was after visa days and I could start straight away and get a lift to and from work. The extent of them helping was "sign up online and get a picking number" they then said that I couldn't get a lift in so I would have to hitch hike.

Noisy, smoking, crowded internationals. Looked like tent city. The place was unwelcoming to Australian travelers. They said they were booked out and than we had to book for a minimum of a week after we saw space was available. Took 30min to find a night staff on duty who was rude. After we found the staff the "inn was full story" come out. clearly did not want us around. Ended sleeping in a local park.

Do yourself a favour and choose a different hostel. The place is nasty.

Some of the kindest people work here I have met in my travels. Whilst I had been inundated with horror stories about working hostels ripping you off and not finding you work, David Val and Andy where the most helpful anyone could be in assisting my friends and I in finding work. Whilst there was always Strawberry picking (not the best job in the world) David and Val will always try and match you up with nicer opportunities such as Apples, Cherries, Grapes. They seemed to have good connections with the local farmers in the area and where often rung with employment opportunities. There are hostel vehicles that are used to transport you to the farms and if there was not enough room in the communal vehicles they would organise transport even if it was in their own cars. We where invited to BBQ's and generally treated like one big crazy international family. Whilst cosmetically and sometimes functionally the actual hostel was a bit over-loved, and a heads up you have to pay $1 for the showers (so bring change when you check in!) you cannot beat the hostel for atmosphere and working to get your 88days signed off. I have made some fantastic friends there, particularly with the staff.

The place is grubby and falling to pieces. You have to pay $40 for pots and pans. You also have to pay for hot water in the shower. General concensus of the staff from other backpackers were they weren't very helpful and only cared about money.

Also heard of a lot of people not getting their $200 security deposit back.

Great working hostel in Huonville, Tasmania. The owners David and Val are very helpful and go out of their way to make sure your settled. Once the season starts there seems to be plenty of work. Only downside in my opinion is you have to pay 1 doller for a hot shower to besides that great hostel in a beautiful area
